Continúe para seleccionar "Select all", luego "Extract image URL in the loop".

En el lado derecho del flujo de trabajo, localice "Advanced options", marque "Scroll down to the bottom of the page when finish loading".
Luego, decida cuántas veces desplazarse y a qué ritmo.

Seleccione "Select all".

Haga clic en la imagen a tamaño completo, luego seleccione "Extract the URL of the selected image".

Haga clic en "Go to the webpage", ubique el botón "Next page" y luego haga clic en él. Seleccione "Loop clicked the selected link" en el panel “Action Tips".

El workflow terminado debería verse así,

Si no se ve igual. Arrástrelo para moverlo.
6) ¡Listo!

Thumbnail URL: https://rukminim1.flixcart.com/image/128/128/jatym4w0/speakemobile-tablet-speakev7/philips-in-bt40bk-94-original-imafybc9ysphpzhv.jpeg?q=70
Full-size URL: https://rukminim1.flixcart.com/image/416/416/jatym4w0/speakemobile-tablet-speakev7/philips-in-bt40bk-94-original-imafybc9rqhdna8z.jpeg?q=70

https://preview.redd.it/32evnfnqezy51.png?width=1870&format=png&auto=webp&s=b94945c09588398280bf42082e62ec4f3bb43f95
5 similar buttons found". ¡Bravo! Octoparse reconoció las miniaturas restantes automáticamente.
Seleccione "Seleccionar todo".

Luego, seleccione "Extract the text of the selected elements".

https://preview.redd.it/6qo5mh8vezy51.png?width=1066&format=png&auto=webp&s=f127df88d2aed0554ad34d761b16bc891c292a87

https://preview.redd.it/db090vjxezy51.png?width=1682&format=png&auto=webp&s=f63f9af69c19980c6599447912cb7167d8688e3d
5) ¿Hemos terminado?
Seleccione "Replace". Reemplace "128" con "416". Haga clic en "Evaluar". Finalmente, tenemos la URL que necesitamos.

https://preview.redd.it/50cmlmoyezy51.png?width=1385&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e8a97ebc452cb240c98912cc94a62b4ca992b88
Verifique los datos extraídos.

https://preview.redd.it/cho4usbzezy51.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e7e29c54ec77c0a0fefb82a3103a7b95645ef52
6) Ejecute la prueba del crawler.

https://preview.redd.it/nj2r5muzezy51.png?width=1192&format=png&auto=webp&s=37d094ed32e3e82316b0ecb10c0208ebb7df8997

https://preview.redd.it/rsih48k0fzy51.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1e1cafa7e4975f0bc161c3d3da08c09ab7108ab

https://preview.redd.it/8mnd8a81fzy51.png?width=826&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2a849a7da46b927a8e8c79308239fc2f741e420
https://preview.redd.it/tl01lz53fzy51.png?width=1666&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7f2b5f9d9e01c5899b5533ee084567e273b6173

https://preview.redd.it/iz7dwyd8fzy51.png?width=1192&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba34ab04316fcb9d7113029518c91350684cfa1a

2020.11.10 16:14 OzkaaN Revisão do Covesting Copy Trading [2020]

Covesting Copy Trading: Estrutura
Covesting Copy Trading: Seguidores

2020.08.14 19:09 Nyan4812 Burmese Way to Socialism : A Peculiar Case of Non-Aligned Socialism in the 20th Century

Burmese Way to Socialism : A Peculiar Case of Non-Aligned Socialism in the 20th Century
Background
First and foremost, I think it is important to talk briefly about the historical context of Burma/Myanmar leading up to our "socialist" period. My country was locked in feudalism for centuries full of dynasties rising and falling apart. Thus the "historical borders" of Burma varied according to dynasty (Byintnaung's Taunggu dynasty stretches all the way from Manipur into Laos for example). This will come back later on but in order to reduce wall of text, I'll give the history before independence and the communist insurgency in the comment below. Lastly, I wanted to point out that in my opinion the ethnic composition of modern Burma after gaining independence could be compared with to that of the Kingdom of Hungary before the Treaty of Trianon. Burmese people made up about 60-70% of the population across country but there are still major ethnic groups that populates a large number of their own lands. [ An ethnolinguistic map of Burma (note: A number of ethnic minorities are not acknowledged on this map including the Rakhine who make up 3.5 percent of the population). Also note that there were a lot of Karen who exclusively speaks Burmese not Karen language in the South West of Burma, the delta region (you can see there is a few Karen reds in the Burmese orange around there)]
Another disclaimer : I do not claim to have a sole authority on the history and affairs of Burma. Do not take everything I said for granted. I am just sharing my knowledge as far as I know. Thanks.
Chapter 1 - History overview from Independent Burma to "Socialist" Burma
After Aung San's assassination due to his pursuit of Left Unity (with communists), U Nu became a de facto leader due to his seniority and reverence by others. U Nu finalized the independence deal with several agreements and Burma gained independence in January 4th, 1948 (it wasn't January 1st as originally intended to because U Nu wanted to make sure the stars were aligned astrologically, which hinted his superstitious nature. Much to ire of other politicians, as they said "What if the British changed their minds, Nu?").
The declaration of Independence.
However, independence didn't come free as U Nu had to agree that he would not nationalize British companies in Burma, such as Burmah Oil Company. This led to the Communist Party of Burma protesting that we might have gotten the national independence, but we didn't get the economic independence and went guerrilla against the government in the same year. As I mentioned above, our borders were not quite exactly set in stone for centuries and when the British took over Burma, they gave Karen people, a marginalized ethnic group, a preferable treatment and Christianized them for example, allowing them to pursue high education and become doctors, generals and such.
(Smith Dun, a Karen general and the first lieutenant-general of the Burmese Army after independence.)
There were many Karen generals in the Burmese army and they were not satisfied with what U Nu was doing after becoming a leader. U Nu may spout Marxian/Leftist rhetoric here and there as a former self-proclaimed Marxist but he spent a number of national budget to build Buddhist temples/pagodas and even tried to make Burma a Buddhist nation (he even used this to rally Buddhist voters in his second election). This angered a lot of ethnic groups who were mostly Christians and they felt U Nu was breaking the Panglong Agreement by not honoring the promise and trying to create a Burmese dominated nation.
(Saw Ba U Gyi Saw Ba U Gyi, leader of Karen National Union and an icon for many Karen revolutionaries and he's considered a martyr of Karen People.)
So a rebellion of Karen people happened in 1949, a year after the independence. And due to the fact that there were many Karen officials in high positions, they quickly took over most of Yangon and almost made it all the way to Pyin Oo Lwin (or Maymyo meaning May's city, where George Orwell was stationed during his time in Burma). U Nu did all he could in his power to quell the rebellion, and CPB, even though they were fighting U Nu's government, decided to fight along with government forces to put down the rebels, in a baffling manner. Thus, the Karen generals retreated into the jungles and this won't be the last time ethnic groups rebel and so were the decision-making blunders of CPB.
Later U Nu had to deal with a remnant of Kuomintang Army establishing bases in Eastern Burma after being driven out of China by PLA. USA kept supplying the Army so they can fight China and the relations between Burma and US soured, driving Burma closer to China. After the Kuomintang issue was settled, U Nu implemented Pyidawtha Plan, an 8 years economic plan, and a second economic plan of Burma.
U Nu with Zhou Enlai and others.
The fighting went on with the government forces and the numerous rebels, including CPB and the Karens. This created a strain on the nation's economy and U Nu was in a difficult position as he wanted to improve the economy of his Golden Land in leaps and bounds. This allowed Ne Win, who's now a general in the national army (after Nu replaced Smith Dun with him), and the military clique to demand U Nu into allowing military enterprises, under the excuse of fighting the rebels better.
So, the military grew in power and influence with each year and U Nu knew Ne Win's coup was on the horizon, with the ruling parliament on the verge of collapse due to power struggle. However, instead of arresting Ne Win and the rest of the military clique, and preventing the potential coup, U Nu allowed Ne Win to run a caretaker government for two years, from 1958 to 1960. The "Pacifist Buddhist" U Nu seemed to assume that giving Ne Win a chance to govern for awhile might persuade him to abandon his desire to coup and encourage Ne Win to participate in coming elections to run for the office fair and square.
U Nu return to the office after 1960's elections, then Ne Win seized the power for real (proving why appeasement was and is a farce) in 1962 and immediately formed the "Revolutionary Council" to act as some sort of interim government. Before the coup, the parliament was already split into two factions with U Nu and his opposition and the ongoing unrest across the country was already making the general population think the politicians were incompetent (they weren't wrong). So when the coup happened, a lot of progressive parties actually supported it wholeheartedly. Ne Win then told the public that he was saving the country from falling over the cliff from all the infighting (a half-truth) and that he wanted to fulfill Aung San's dream of realizing socialism in Burma (also a half-truth) because the capitalist path taken by the parliament had failed according to him.
It wasn't certain why the military clique chose to establish "socialism" aside from giving the coup some legitimacy. Contextually speaking, the Communist Bloc and the revolutionary fervor was pretty strong back then. And even though Ne Win was far from politically literate, we was still a cunning man and skilled tactician as shown by the history. Also one must keep in mind that the coup happened amidst what was definitely a civil war, so the military itself was shaky even though they have the arms.
The only picture where Ne Win and Aung San were together side by side and the \"chairman\" milked it for all its worth through his leadership.
Due to that, the Revolutionary Council, made up of military officers and not politicians, established an advisory committee made up of purged ex-communist party members and socialists of different kinds. They encouraged Ne Win to gain the trust of the peasantry since Burmese was (and still is) an agricultural country. So Ne Win arranged Peasant Seminars in the same year he gained power and later enacted "land redistribution", "nationalization", "price regulations", education and healthcare "reforms". I'll go in-depth in the economic topic.
![img](1pxup1z2ozg51 " Translation: (Our Tenet - We, the working class people of Union of Burma, believe that as long as there are the avaricious people and their despicable economic systems that prey on the weaknesses of the masses to exploit them with no regards to essential values such as love and compassion between the people, we can never be truly free from the ills of the society. Hence, in our Union of Burma, we believe that only through the cessation of the avaricious economic systems that relies on exploitation and domination between men, then establishing a socialist economic system, our citizens can be free from all forms of suffering and ascend to a new prosperous society with virtuous principles. In accordance to these convictions, we vow to strive onward till we reach our socialist goal.) Apparently it's not only the official declaration on radio after the coup, it was in every book front pages.")

In the following year, the "revolutionary" government offered peace negotiation to the rebel groups. Representatives of communist party, Karen party and such went there, but aside from fringe groups like KNU faction led by Saw Hunter Thar Mwey, it basically fell out and the government got to make propaganda with the well-known photo where the communist representatives leaving across the river with the famous label, "They have abandoned the people behind and retreated into the jungles."

![img](ur0i5go5pzg51 "CPB representatives retreating into jungles after failed negotiations (Propaganda title says : Thakin Soe's Red Flag Communist Party representatives and Communist Party of Burma representatives led by Comrade Htay ended the negotiations with the Revolutionary Council and... retreated into the jungles, abandoning the people [of Burma] behind)")
Meanwhile the Communist Party of Burma issued a new policy called 64 Course (the year it was enacted) a.k.a Depose-Purge-Execute as it was called by Ne Win's propaganda machine in order to demonize the communist party. It was a mistake in hindsight as the party veered into ultra left adventurism, due to the influences of Cultural Revolution in China during that time, and a lot of veterans and experienced/up-and-coming cadres were lost during that period. Infighting and factionalism intensified, then party members either began to kill each other or send them out to fight (no retreat) against overwhelming odds on erroneous assumption that they could overcome every enemy as long as they have the support from the people. And unsurprisingly many died thanks to that, resulting in the party getting scolded by CCP later on. (Note : Cultural Revolution hadn't happened yet officially, but there were already instances of ultra leftist adventurism going on in CCP and the same goes for Burmese CP, who worked along with CCP during that time)
When Cultural Revolution was going on strong in China, some Chinese schools in Burma began to distribute Mao's Little Red Books. This gave Ne Win more opportunity to stoke up racial conflicts with Chinese people in Burma and repress them further, resulting in the Chinese-Burmese Conflict (which was manufactured according to many witnesses, including my father). Ethnic Chinese people were already leaving in droves since the "nationalization" procedures in 1963 which left them penniless (my grandfather's relatives fled to USA by selling out their assets before Ne Win "nationalized" them). They have perfected this "starting a ethnic conflict to distract our government's shortcomings" tactic to an art form after decades of doing this multiple times, most recently the Rohingya crisis (made worse by the fact that they are considered not-applicable for citizenship due to 1982 Citizenship Law). And the most ironic part was the fact that Ne Win, San Yu and many of the higher-ups were half-Chinese Burmese people (Ne Win's birth name was Shu Maung).
On 2 March 1974, Ne Win disbanded the Revolutionary Council and proclaimed the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma. Apparently it took really took them this long to come up with a joke of a constitution (I'll expand why 1974 later) despite having a number of failed communists/socialists within the ranks (they were all kicked out before 1974 btw). Then they changed the flag slightly to reflect the values of "socialist" Burma. More on that later.
(Original flag of Union of Burma)
(Flag of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma)
The government was not without any opposition however as there were multiple events from the time of the coup to 1975. In 1962 while the politicians were praising Ne Win for his actions, there was a protest in Rangoon (now Yangon) University, which was brutally shot down. In 1963 another event happened on 1 year anniversary of the protest. In 1969 a protest happened during the SEA games (South East Asian). In 1974 there was the famous U Thant crisis (which my father unknowingly evaded potential death by going home that evening before crackdown to take a bath) and 1975 an anniversary of U Thant crisis (my father got arrested along with many other students this time).
After that one, the protests/movements in the cities died down with no big major event until November 3rd 1985, where the 50, and 100 kyats notes were demonetized without warning, which obviously resulted in an uproar. Later the public was allowed to exchange limited amounts of the old notes for new ones and the government introduced oddball notes such as 15, 35, 75 kyats (you can look up here) because Ne Win was superstitious and listened to his fortune tellers to a T. He changed our traffic to right hand side even though our cars were left-handed because he wanted to prevent our country from "left-wing deviation" (we still drive on right with left-handed vehicles to this day). One thing to add on was that this wasn't the first time the existing bank notes were demonetized without warning.
The largest uprising which resulted in the crumbling of the "socialist" government came in 1988 with the famous 8888 uprising (because it happened in August 8th 1988). The whole nation was on a boiling point and due to the corrupt government which didn't care about its people and the living standards got worse with each day due to countless economic mismanagement throughout the years. The Uprising was still put down violently but Ne Win announced he was too old for this shit and retired. He also quoted "Political power came from the barrel of a gun" line and said "it's not the nature of the army to shoot in the air. They would shoot straight to hit". Then a military junta took over as Ne Win withdrew behind the curtains.
The balance of power was very shaky as the leaders within the junta kept changing a lot in a short period of time before 1990's elections, the first multi-party elections in a long time. National League for Democracy, led by Aung San Su Kyi, won but the military junta ignored the results and put her under house arrest and formed a new government, shedding the "socialist" apparatus and reformed the economy. Thus Burmese Way to Socialism experiment ceased to exist.
Chapter 2 - What happened to the CPB?
I have mentioned about how US was involved in helping out the Kuomintang forces in Burma. Well US meddling here didn't end there because most of the time Karen rebels had US advisors at times for example (Note : I'm not saying Karen people had no self-determination). And later on, there were foreign advisors in Burmese Army that either came from USA, Israel, etc, basically Western Powers that provided strategy for Ne Win's government to take out the communist insurgents.
The strategy was to evict the people living in the Bago-Yoma Mountains and relocate them into settlements in the nearby plains where they were supervised by the military to make sure that the locals were not providing rations to the communists. Apparently, they tried the same thing in Vietnam too in order to starve out the communist insurgents but didn't work out in that case.
The communists had frequently engaged in the urban warfare up to this point through student networks which also tied into the aforementioned protests as many students were literate and based. But due to the 64 Course, the handicapped party refused to relocate the base to the outposts in the east (where the party had recruited the Wa people and uplifted them). They erroneously held onto the ultra-leftist "never retreat, as long as the people's support is there" line and fought back the encirclement. Many knew the 64 Course was a mistake but they were too flustered and didn't have the opportunity to correct it. Thus, many leaders and cadres were lost when the party finally retreated to the east after the central party base in Bago-Yoma Mountain fell in 1975. This was also why the aforementioned protests and movements in the urban stopped for some times after 1975.
China maintained a healthy relationship with the Burmese government, however they also supported the communists with weapons and even volunteer troops at times (PVA fought with them under the banner of Burmese CP). And even after the relocation to the Liberated Areas (where Wa State would later form) the party still enjoyed success against the Burmese Army. This and the material support from China brewed right opportunism within the ranks as soldiers were more likely to use pristine AKs came from China in boxes and did not reuse captured arms of the enemy.
This eventually came back to haunt them when China steadily drew back the support due to changes in foreign policy (they had warned them in advance). They cannot fight as much as they did and land reforms for self-sufficiency were not that effective and the party had to revise their lines to allow party members to become small business owners. This allowed Wa people to discover the perks of opium production and when the party finally realized the mistake, it was too late. The growing bureaucracy also made the party hesitated to take the initiative during critical moments, like not launching the assault when 8888 Uprising was at its peak. And later Wa members enacted a coup and ousted the party into China in 1990 during the period of global counterrevolution.
Note : The statements regarding ultra-left adventurism and right opportunism within the party came from the official party statement pamphlet I own which is rather limited and written in a way that was basically "so you know how this went down" style. So apologies for the lack of available information.
Chapter 3 - Economy of Burma from Independence to "Socialism"
The state of economy during U Nu's leadership was that due to the industrial base provided (and owned) by the British and the national bourgeoisie, we had the aforementioned Burmah Oil Company (BOC), Lion Biscuits, General Ownthi (Coconut in Burmese) Bicycles, Turkey Brand Satin Umbrella, Steel Brothers Co Ltd (which exports wood), London Cigarettes, BPI Pharmaceutical, textile industries, and so on. Yet, many industries were nationalized and the government later bought back these foreign companies at great price.
I'm not trying to brag or anything but Burma used to be the industrial powerhouse and its education was top tier among other South East Asian nations. Lee Kuan Yew even said in 1965 that he wanted to catch up with Burma economically in 20 years. Burma also had a wealth of natural and labor resources. It produced 75 percent of the world's teak and had a highly literate population. And it was believed to be on the fast track to development. The economy was a bit stagnant during the 50's due to U Nu's welfare state economic plan not meeting its quotas due to Korean War hurting the rice sales, which is our main export to this day along with teak. That was the official report however. The real cause was due to rampant corruption within the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League Government of U Nu.
Here are some graph data I've find that support the fact that economy was stagnant but still developing during U Nu's era.
Fig. 1) Real GDP in Billions of Kyats at 1959-60 Prices (source : Revolutionary Government of the Union of Burma Ministry of National Planning, Economic Survey of Burma 1962)
Fig. 2) Growth Rate of Real GDP 1950-1960 during Pyidawtha Plan
After Nu allowed the military to run its own private business due to lack of proper state funding, military economic enterprises were formed. They were the Defense Services Institute (DSI) and Burma Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), and they were staffed with retired military officials. They also got special privileges such as tax exemptions, thus they grew quickly and larger every year. By 1960, it had monopoly on many domestic and foreign production and it was on par with the state-owned enterprises on 1961, a year before the coup.
(source : Report to the people by the Union of Burma Revolutionary Council 1969-1970 and Report to the Pyithu Hluttaw 1988-89)
I'm no economic expert but judging by these graphs and tables (I might be wrong), rice production didn't change after the "nationalizations" and "land reforms" but rice export fell gradually.
Communists have always been upfront about their stances on the peasants from the get-go; "Peasants will get the lands". Ne Win also did the same regarding the peasants, following the guidance of the advisory board, and held Peasant Seminars for a few years after he came to power. However he subtly twisted the words of the communists by claiming "Peasants will get the RIGHT to get the lands" which allowed the ruling party to not fully carry out the land redistribution process. In theory, the peasants can apply for the land ownership, but it wasn't truly the case on practice nonetheless.
They then proceeded with "nationalization" of businesses (note my parentheses here). Nationalizing key industries would be considered a correct course to be taken by a socialist government coming into power, but the first problem arose when they almost immediately seized every kinds of business, where even small shops and street hawker stands were being seized with no compensation whatsoever. This gave the people a bad impression of the new government and alienated them (fun fact : my great grandfather from mother's side used to own a lot of lands while my grandfather from father's side has small industry. Both lost everything with no compensations. Not that I'm defending their former class status). Then the shops were reopened with generic labels, so a bank will become "People's Bank No. 16" for example, and a shopping mall will become "People's Shop No. 9999".
People's bank No 16
People's shop No. 9999 and 9319 along with people's cigarette committee No. 2 on top right
Many of the aforementioned foreign businesses were already bought back by U Nu's government and were already nationalized and many of the key industries were already nationalized during U Nu's leadership. So what the new government only did was that he just transferred the ownership of these business under their "socialist" banner. But they still employed the same people in the nationalized industries as in the previous government, so people didn't see too much difference when it happened.
Apparently, they built houses too but I've never heard about it (I only managed to see ONE photo in their official propaganda book I'm using as a reference). My father did said that the government initially coerce the people that those who carried construction bricks will get an apartment for free, and many office workers will go out in the evening to carry bricks. The only instance where a notable socialist style construction happened was when a police station in my father's town burnt to the ground during midnight. So the government officials quickly called in the construction workers and rebuilt the police station (or at least the exterior) overnight. Probably the only known showing of the power of socialist construction.
\"Housing projects for the people with the help from the people are ongoing\"
The government also launched literacy campaigns called 3 "အ" after အရေး၊ အဖတ်၊ အပြော writing, reading, speaking. it was bare minimum to say at least. As it never went whole-national scale as the insurgency and poor transportation routes to the far reaches of the nation proved difficult for the campaigns, even if their intentions were pure and sincere. The problem here was that while it was not wrong to make the citizens learn the language spoken by the majority (Burmese), they didn't protect or promote other major ethnic groups' language and culture. So it was seen as more of an intentional destruction of their culture by the people.
https://preview.redd.it/zsvskd9iuzg51.png?width=578&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2ecce6b3397d9b5f3d2cd282b84de454132b4ee
While it wasn't as widely known among other things, there were some Burmese people who get to study abroad in Soviet Union thanks to our "socialist" status. USSR even built the well-known Rangoon Institute of Technology in Yangon (Yangon and Rangoon are the same). But unfortunately, only a handful of people who went to Soviet Union with scholarship actually managed to contribute back to the nation when they came back due to poor management. (Another anecdote: A neighbor of my father had a degree in economic planning from USSR but he never really get a proper job position when he got home even though such degree would have been a valuable asset. And the collapse of "socialist" Burma years later didn't help his case of course. )
You can see 3 အ logo on the left
Education reforms included establishment of pioneers and inclusion of "socialist" literature in the curriculum, so the students need to learn dialectics and such in order to pass exams. But it was all surface level as it was well known that you can just bullshit your way through these exams because the teachers themselves were not that literate and they could care less. I've mentioned that Lee Kuan Yew said he wanted Singapore to become like Burma in 20 years. And along with our booming economy, we used to be fluent in English due to the legacy of British education but Ne Win, being a xenophobe as noted above, changed all the textbooks in English language into Burmese language. Only allowing people to learn English after primary school. His excuse was that he wanted the people to cultivate national spirit. But really, this just set us back in terms of English fluency because it was an advantage to be fluent in English to pursue higher education abroad basically, which is still true to this day.
Pioneers in action
Burma-nized text books
Since the inception, black markets were rampant because the implemented "socialist" system was inefficient and filled with corruption and bribing. It got worse after the Advisory Board was kicked out before 1974. So we had the party members (every government employees had to join the party) stealing rations, basic goods, etc from the warehouses to sell them on these black markets. It didn't help that we had to get our share of rations monthly which were shit in quality and quantity so people just had to rely on these expensive black market goods to fill their bellies.
There were also economic plans and infrastructure projects but as one might get the idea already from earlier it was sadly full of incompetency from the start and it only got worse over time. This resulted in many ghost dams, ghost power plants and ghost train stations (that are still present to this day) around the country. It was just a scheme by the engineers and other officials to leech off government money basically, something still happening to this day. The quotas provided for factories were also either ridiculous or poorly managed that for example a soapbar factory will halve their 1 million soapbars so they can report they have made the 2 million soapbars quota and no one will ever fact check them. These implied the out-of-touch nature of the planners from their industries.
We still had free healthcare (though I have no information about the quality of it), access to western music (fun fact : since western music came to us through shipments in Yangon, what usually happened was that local producers will get the records first and produce bootleg copy versions with local artists.. before the original records even hit the stores), movies and products thanks to being a part of the Non-Aligned Movement (fun fact: Django Strikes Again was the last film to be screened in our "socialist" Burma thanks to 8888 Uprising). Another perk would be that we had USSR, DPRK (it got kicked out after DPRK agents tried to assassinate SK leaders visiting here though), PRC, and other socialist countries' embassies in Burma, so communists like my father can just walk into those embassies and get free socialist books (and they all got confiscated whenever he got arrested, sadly).
But all these negatives compounded to the point that the once powerhouse of South East Asia had to apply for Least Developed Country in 1987. And it never recovered. The damage has been done. The culture of corruption started from those times carried on to this day in Burma as bribery is largely how businesses are conducted and you can get through many obstacles as long as you have some cash to shove in their pockets. This was also the same in case of other socialist countries to this day so I won't say it's solely the fault of our state.
Timeline speaking wise, the first 10 year period after the coup, from 1962 to 1972, was relatively stable. This was very likely due to the fact that the new government had the advisory board that was made up of purged communists and socialists, following their direction on nation-building. Despite being failed communists (for siding with the parliamentary government against the communist party in the early days) many of them, such as Thein Phay Myint, actually had been to and stayed at USSR for awhile. This gave them a first handed experience on how a socialist state would work in practice. And Thein Phay Myint for example chiefly contributed the early building period of a "socialist" Burma, until he got shafted after outliving his usefulness. The whole advisory board meet this fate before the 1974, where they were dismantled by the government and the government officially established "socialist" Burma with a new constitution. I think it wasn't a coincidence that things started deteriorating really fast starting from 1974.
For all its faults, I can see the "socialist" state of Burma actually working out if it was managed by more competent people as I think there were some credible historical and material foundation leading up to it. But the government 's decision to prolong the civil war, not respecting the major ethnic groups' culture and rights, rampant corruptions throughout, and the dismantling of the advisory board (who actually knew what they were doing) had proven to be its undoing as seen by the 8888 Uprising and subsequent military coup. But all of these are lessons from the past to the future.
That's all I have to say for now and I hope you all fellow comrades learn something about my country and how it used to be. I may expand specific topics in the near future but for now I have written long enough. Thanks for reading.

Automaticamente me animei e fiquei profundamente feliz, "ela ainda me ama!" Pensei. Eu odeio me sentir dessa forma sabe?

2020.07.04 06:56 jsalsman The means of production are too complex and distributed to be meaningfully seized.

Factories aren't what they used to be. The amount of specialist expertise necessary to operate merely the irrigation system at a typical farm is beyond that of anyone who hasn't been trained on it, and the same is true for tilling, planting, and harvesting equipment. Up until around 1950, a field commander could probably manage control of a typical factory with sufficient soldiers to post, but not these days. Products are designed in the suburbs and assembled offshore at a factory that makes a thousand other products.
No group seeking violent overthrow can stand a chance at meaningfully seizing any but the simplest means of production. Anything substantial such as automobiles, phones, computer and data communications equipment, medical gear, and all but the simplest, most basic goods and services can not reasonably be placed under the control of a junta of any sort.
What implications does this have for communist revolution?

2020.07.03 03:27 RatsAreAdorable How Starfleet's track record of corrupt high-ranking officers may be a result of its organizational structure, promotion policies and 23rd/24th century Federation values

Starfleet has a long-running reputation for its top ranks being unreliable, unethical, treacherous, or just plain nuts. We get a couple of power-hungry/mad/unethical captains from TOS - Garth of Izar from TOS: Whom Gods Destroy and Ronald Tracey from TOS: The Omega Glory (both of whom were highly regarded prior to turning into megalomaniacs) and then with the TNG era and ST VI: The Undiscovered Country, the floodgates really open and a steady stream of traitors, incompetents, megalomaniacs, wannabe fascists, so on and so forth, seem to pour out of Starfleet's higher ranks. and even those admirals that aren't actually bad seem either incompetent or so hopelessly removed from the situation that they threaten to make things worse. Admiral Nechayev from TNG and DS9 is a fine case in point, but even those high-ranking officers who aren't up to something sinister are generally ineffectual, with possibly a handful of exceptions like Admiral Ross from DS9, and of course, Admiral Kirk. This continues into Star Trek: Picard where Commodore Oh, Head of Starfleet Security, turns out to have been a deep-cover Romulan general all along, so this fine tradition doesn't seem to be dying out soon.
While I've been asking myself "what gives"? for a long time, a post by u/ianjm in the recent thread discussing the Federation's political structure had me thinking: Starfleet does a lot more than military matters, and it deals with science, exploration, policing and diplomacy to the point that it resembles a military junta in control of a Federation, a Federation where 24th century values do not put an emphasis on money or power.
Even if the Federation's cultural values degrade the importance of money and power, those are quintessential human motivations, and humans do not let go of power easily. A culture that tends to downplay them and thinks it has evolved beyond their use is turning a dangerously blind eye to their importance. At the same time, it means that there aren't many places where someone who seeks power can go into that we know of - like say, the equivalent of finance, where they can make all the money and power they want but attract significant levels of public disregard/suspicion in the process (Just look at how Wall Street is being regarded right now, and particularly after the 2008 recession). The Federation council's political power appears to be restricted or inhibited, and Starfleet seems to make a number of crucial diplomatic decisions and appointments on its own. Starfleet officers seem to do everything. DS9 has Sisko leave the station for various missions that another crew could conceivably accomplish given Sisko's importance as the Station's CO and The Emissary to the Prophets. Worf and Dax are sent on a rescue mission with zero advance preparation). This is an organization that's too powerful for its own good.
Even worse, Starfleet is plagued by the same middle-manager problem that plagues a lot of companies. Rather than having the Peter Principle in play ("People are promoted until they reach the level at which they are incompetent for their job"), you have a lot of officers who, following 24th century values, would rather not advance any further. Kirk's advice to Picard when inside the Nexus was to not let anyone promote him - to not let anyone take him away from the Captain's Chair of the Enterprise. As noted in DS9, everyone wants to be a Starship Captain, not an Admiral - to go about and explore strange new worlds in the vein of Kirk. Nobody's willing to sit at the desk job and do the dirty work that comes with it, except those who seek to gain more power. I should also add that Kirk is miserable when he's promoted to Admiral and delighted to be demoted to Captain and given command of the Enterprise-A; Picard doesn't seem any happier and is clearly gunning for a ship of his own throughout Star Trek: Picard.
The problem becomes worse when you look at how Starfleet seems to place position ahead of rank. Picard is a Captain while Riker, his XO, is a Commander - had he been commanding a US Navy cruiser or aircraft carrier, Picard's XO would be a Captain as well, equal in rank but junior in terms of experience. For Riker to not accept being promoted to Captain and being given command of the USS Melbourne (TNG: The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1) is acting as a roadblock to Commander Shelby, which seems foolish because by US Navy logic, there should be no trouble with promoting him to Captain and leaving him as XO of the Enterprise, while Shelby or another officer could go on to command the Melbourne as a Commander. For real-life reference, US Navy destroyers have Commanders in charge, with Captains commanding small groups of destroyers. It makes total sense for a massive Galaxy-class ship to have a Captain as the commanding officer, but a smaller vessel with a smaller crew could easily do with a Commander in charge. Data (a Lieutenant Commander) was put in temporary command of the USS Sutherland it's not as though a Commander couldn't be put in charge of a smaller ship (Sisko does command the Defiant while he's still a Commander), or that an officer of a lower rank could at least temporarily be awarded a higher rank. (When Sisko commands a fleet in late-season DS9, his rank remains Captain, although by the positional logic used by Starfleet, he should be at least a Commodore if not a Rear Admiral).
The entire result is a messy organizational situation where people of ability who want to climb up the ranks are frustrated by the desires of superior officers in the Commander and Captain positions, and because Starfleet doesn't clearly acknowledge the nature of ambition (those 24th century values again), it means that those who want to rise the ranks need to find other ways of doing so, ways that aren't necessarily in line with Federation values. As Joseph Conrad notes in Heart of Darkness, there are people who are thoroughly average, who climb up in rank behind the others and who stay in their position simply because they take no sides, have no values, and keep things going - more mediocre than mediocrities. The others are power-hungry manipulators who find a backdoor way of getting around obstacles in the one organization that'll give them all the power they want.
The end result is that the officers who find ways of getting past those in love with the Captain's Chair are also the officers who are most likely to be (a) ineffectual PADD-pushers or (b) unethical, megalomaniacal, tyrannical, and generally up to no good. With an existing set of similar bad officers up on top, is it any wonder that so many lousy or dangerous officers make their way up to admiral while the best officers stay in the middle of their own volition? And worse, what does it say about Starfleet that they've not been able to diagnose the obvious organizational rot at the top?

2020.06.22 14:19 Ampersand_Dotsys The Ballad of the Junta (Part 1)

[Science Fiction and Futurism. Warnings for harsh language (non-abusive), Warfare]
"Calculating for time lag..." murmured Sabin, his left hand imputing data into the turret's quad-cannon system. Speed, trajectory, distance, inertia... a string of variables that would change after each movement. Variables that would change after every shot. The Junta's gunnery display shifted from a deep ochre to blue as the ship's limited AI processed the numbers and acquired a target. "Firing solution locked in!"
"Junta, weapons free." Crackled a response over the static hissing from his headset. "Divine be with you." Sabin, a practical Valdarii, didn't feel like the Holy had much to do with them these days. He twitched the control stick in his right hand, giving a micro-adjustment to the turret's angle of fire.
"Torpedos away!" Cried First Mate Carnifex over the internal PA. His shout was accentuated by a low rumble traveling though the decking as the warheads passed the length of the frigate. The Junta's engines sparked to life, their position given away with the first volley of fire. Mini fusion reactor spinning up to full, the ship leapt away from it's dead-slow position.
Sabin grunted as he was slammed back into his seat, the crushing weight of multiple G-forces sitting on his chest like a steel plate. Restraints held his arms near the gunnery console, but it was all he could do to rotate the cannon to track the distant enemy vessel. On his viewscreen several points of light materialized around the enemy ship, flashing through the space just recently occupied by the Junta. It only took a moment for him to realize they weren't shooting at them directly, but at the incoming salvo of torpedos.
"Rolling to fire! Gunnery, light 'em up!"
Sabin gently twisted the control stick, bracketing the cruiser as it shot another spread of gunfire at the torpedos rocketing towards it. Finding his target as the Junta rolled towards the vessel, he pushed against the pedals at his feet, triggering the quad-cannon to action.
"Firing!" Sabin yelled into his headset, the Junta vibrating hard as flame belched from the artillery's four barrels. Lances of white light streaked towards the cruiser, the rocket-propelled shells accelerating as the cannon spat them into the void. The enemy cruiser seemed to dance in random patterns on his screen as he fought to compensate for the Junta's movements. A bright flash of light lit the darkness for an instant, followed closely by two more- the torpedos had been intercepted.
"Next school 'a fish, away!" Another series of deep thuds signaled the release of the second spread of warheads
"Adjusting course! High gravity turn, second rate! Retros firing, hold fast!"
Sabin was suddenly slammed against the chair's harness, the g-forces suddenly shoving him forward into the inertial restraints. His bodysuit tightened around his legs and waist, squeezing blood from his limbs back into his core as the G's climbed on his heads-up display. He sucked breath in a series of small gasps, straining his core with every inhalation. As the nose of the Junta dipped, his vision started to wash out in shades red.
"Adrenal stimulants, activating!" Reported the Medico. Sabin winced as a pinch pricked his neck beneath the harness. His heart rate spiked as his vision cleared, the frigate's main thrusters cutting and allowing the ship to freely rotate under it's own inertia. The crushing gravity squeezing his body vanished almost instantly as the drive dropped, allowing him a moment to breathe. More spears of light appeared on his viewscreen, raining destruction along their warship's projected path. Slamming his feet into the pedals again, his quad-cannon preached the Word in it's terrible language of 120mm plasma-sheathed shells. His rack count raced towards zero, his sole focus on the distant cruiser as his lips pulled away from his teeth in a rictus of death and war.
"We're on the offensive! Brace, Brace, Brace! Flank speed!" Commander Artinius reported over the internal comms. As he spoke, a single flash lit the distant cruiser near the stern, sparkling debris from the torpedo's impact scattering in a cloud around the vessel. He only had a moment to revel in the satisfaction of wounding the ship before the thrusters bellowed again, squeezing him back into the gunnery seat once more.
A buzzing, mechanical voice suddenly came over the encrypted comms. "One impact confirmed, Junta. Requiem moving to assist. Let's give 'em hell." Sabin's HUD displayed the fleet identifier for Group Commander Tyran, who was leading the charge. Sabin had never met the man, but had heard stories of the battle that had taken his voice- spalling from weapons fire had torn out his throat years before, but rather than submitting to death (or retirement), the man had chosen to continue service. After numerous life-saving surgeries he was more machine than Valdarii... nearly integrated into his vessel, his failing body laid suspended in a tank of nutrient-solution with conduits and augmentations feeding him data from the engagement.
"We're targeted! Activating countermeasures... Dusting local space!" A series of hollow thumps sounded in rapid succession, the ECM officer engaging the chaff systems as the Junta cut thrust, tumbling freely for a moment before rocketing off on a new vector. Sabin winced as his monitor flashed brightly, motes of static blurring the image of the enemy cruiser as charged particles cloaked their vessel from radar. Unfortunately, chaff was indiscriminate to allies or enemy ships, creating a massive blur of electronic noise to all sensor suites. Sabin's HUD blinked back to ochre, targeting assistance lost to the interference.
"Radar aegis down. Switching to visual." Sabin stated into his headset, tapping sets of commands into his console. His display snapped to visual feed only, overlaid with data visuals of speed, direction, and estimated enemy vessel heading. "We should have waited for the rest of the fleet..."
"Cut the bullshit, Rating." Hissed Carnifex. "Requiem requested assistance. That's all you need to concern yourself with, right n-... Fuck! Incoming! Hold!"
The Junta shook violently, the shields flaring brightly as cannon fire played across their surface. The Requiem was moving to position itself below the cruiser, rolling to face it's topside artillery towards the other ship's underbelly.
"Shields at 65%. Diverting power...68...70..."
Sabin grit his teeth, kicking into the pedals again. The quad-cannon barked momentarily before falling silent, a loud 'CLANG' punctuating the last shot. Glancing at the ammo count, he spat a curse as the indicator read zero, 'RELOAD' blinking in white text below the goose egg.
"I'm out! Reload the cannon!" He called, two loud 'beeps' signalizing the magazine crew had received the order. As they worked, his ammo reader switched from Plasma Sheath to SABOT, the secondary backup magazine. The deck beneath him shuddered, the ammunition moving up the rack to the topside weapon. The comms crackled to life once more, Tyran's digitized voice hailing them.
"Junta, use us as a shield. Move towards their stern and let's see if we can kick their feet out from under them. You are authorized to jump. Repeat, you are authorized to..."
"Micro-jump initialized." Reported Carnifex. "Coordinates locked. Prepare to shift- estimated range to enemy on exit: 35 kilometers, point-blank."
"Turret locked." Replied Sabin amid the flurry of comms confirmations. Everyone was jabbering in rapid-fire checks, but somehow their training prevented them from stepping on one another's broadcasts.
"Reactor stabilized. 105%, particle stresses minimum."
"Spooling up T-Drive! Twenty seconds to phase shift readiness, on your mark."
"Navigation suite primed. Astronomics reading optimal."
"Shields at maximum, batteries charged."
"Ammunition magazine at 66%. Sabot primed and loaded topside. Last torpedo spread in the tubes."
"Environmental controls set to manual lock. Don't open a window..."
"Can it!" Growled Carnifex, "Enough bullshitting. We're going up the ass of that devil, so keep your head in the game." The engines died as he spoke, a sense of profound weightlessness overtaking Sabin as the thrust zeroed.
"3...2...1..." The navigator spoke over the internal PA, killing the chatter. "Mark. Jumping."
Sabin hissed a breath through his teeth, his perspective of the ship stretching and folding in on itself before him. Fractals and motes of light appeared across the interior of the ship, blossoming like flowers and blazing like miniature stars. He felt a hard pulling sensation in his gut like someone trying to turn him inside out, before everything snapped back into place as they reentered realspace. Proximity alarms sounded as they materialized near the cruiser, claxons blasting the air and warning of impending collision.
"Micro-jump successful, T-Drive systems nominal. Starting the clock." Carnifex reported. It would be a minimum of seven minutes for the jump drive to reconfigure after the shift, allowing the phase systems time to radiate waste heat and stabilize. "Game time."
Sabin unlocked his cannon, twitching the control stick to sweep for the enemy vessel. With just a minute elevation shift, the cruiser's main drives crawled into view- six massive holes in the rear of the ship vomiting flame into the void. The Junta's maneuvering thrusters burned momentarily, shifting the bow of the frigate towards the cruiser's stern.
"Main quad-battery on manual. Range: point-blank. On your mark."
"Reactor at 94%. Containment holding."
"Kinetic Shields nominal, battery backups in the green."
"Magazine ready!"
"Astronomics jammed. Radar Aegis scrambled. We're visual-only."
"Environmental controls released, automated systems running green."
On his viewscreen, Sabin watched as the cruiser's shields flickered brightly, the Requiem's topside salvos splashing harmlessly against them. Each impact sent a ripple of light around the cruiser, who was stabbing back at the Requiem with several batteries in it's lower decks. Both of the two thousand meter ships had moved to within 150kms of one another, and were slugging it out like two drunks in a bar.
"Torpedos launching..." Once again, the resounding thumps of the torpedos traveled towards the nose of the Junta. "Launch confirmed! Brace for shock!"
Sabin instinctively leaned back into his chair, eyes fixed on the three embers of light racing towards the cruiser. The enemy ship's rear point-defense turrets began to track towards the torpedos, but at such a close range there was no time to react.
Sabin had time to see two of the torpedos adjust their course slightly, their directional retros firing briefly as their angle shifted- the third was a little too slow, catching engine wash and deflecting off at a shallow angle towards empty space. His screen pulsed brightly as the two warheads struck home in the stern of the cruiser, before cutting feed entirely.
The Junta shook like a toy in an overeager child's hand, the combat lighting flickering dimly as the shockwave overtook them. Radiation claxons added their voice to the proximity alarms, the final torpedos' payloads delivering a hammer-blow of fission to the rear of the enemy ship.
"EMP failsafes in the green." Carnifex stated, a calm urgency tinting his transmission. "Rebooting advanced systems. Running backup Faraday network."
"Shields rebooted, 95%. Battery load at 22%, charging."
"Reactor at 68%. Beta-particle toxicity rising. Compatibility Nexus destabilizing." The core engineer's voice seemed morose. "She's poisoned, but I think it'll hold."
"Optics online. Visual feed only, radar and sensor suite fried."
"Good enough. We'll worry about that when we have time." Carnifex replied, as Sabin's console flickered back to life.
The cruiser had continued away from them, widening the gap between the vessels. A debris field trailed behind the capital ship, remnants of the colossal engines warped and twisted beyond recognition. Only two of the six primary drives still heaved the craft forward, while bright plasma vented freely from where the other forcing cones had been. Rapidly cooling fragments spun past the Junta, some almost as large as the frigate itself.
"We're moving." Carnifex stated bluntly, the Junta's primary thrusters igniting with a dull roar. Intermittent loud bangs and the screech of metal on metal came from the outer hull as detritus raked down the Junta's armor. "They know we're here. Weapons free."
"SENDING IT!" Sabin yelled in confirmation, pressing his feet against the pedals and triggering the quad-cannon once more. The weapon roared into the void, tracers playing over the mangled sections of hull once housing the nearby ship's engines. Many of the salvos struck true, playing a stream of destruction across the crippled vessel.
Several dim sparks of light flickered from the rear of the enemy ship, blossoming into bright flashes near the Junta. Flak sprayed across the frigate, rattling deafeningly over the hull. Luckily, their armor was holding- after all, flak was a last ditch effort at point defense for missiles, torpedos, and fighter craft... Not escort ships.
"Taking fire! Flak batteries on the stern! Engaging now!" Sabin called into his headset, twisting the control stick to bracket one of the launchers. He tapped a key by his left hand, increasing optical magnification as he sent another short burst at the weapons system. He could see the rounds striking true against the turret, which began to leak an oily black cloud into space as it fell silent. "One down, only-..."
"Junta, withdraw. Repeat. Junta, withdraw. The enemy's shields are down, and the boat is crippled." Tyran said over the encrypted channel, his modulated voice buzzing mechanically. "We're firing main batteries in thirty seconds. You are within splash range."
Sabin kept the pedals engaged, racing though his ammunition as he sprayed death across the rear of the wounded cruiser. The Junta banked into a high-G turn, bucking once as a flak canister burst against the starboard side.
Sabin winced as the explosion rocked the frigate, a rush of air suddenly whipping at his pressure-suit's fabric covering. He keyed open the comms channel, a bright red light starting to flash ominously on his turret's control panel.
"We're breached! Venting atmosphere!" He screamed into the mic, peering down the corridor. Several dozen meters away, the wall had buckled, a small rift ripping the air from the vessel. Tapping at a few keys, he shook his head at himself. "Turret control linked to bridge- I'm going to seal the boat."
"Oxygen reserves at 88%, excess is purging into the deck. Losing it as fast as we can pump it. Blast doors sealed and maglocked. You're on your own, Sabin. Godspeed and good luck. We'll keep it steady."
"Yeah, I bet." He murmured, tapping a rune on the control board to release the harness holding his arms in place. Tearing the headset from his head, he placed it gently on the console, as protocol dictated- though when he released it, it flew down the corridor... aided by their thrust velocity and the rushing air escaping their wounded ship. He quickly keyed in a series of strokes on the datapad integrated into the bodysuit's left forearm, internal electromagnets in his boots locking to the deck.
"Twenty seconds, Junta." Reported Tyran. "Brace yourselves. We won't be able to make more time."
"Yeah, yeah. Of course not." He grumbled to himself, slapping the quick release harness across his chest. The Junta slowed, relieving some of the crushing weight of the extra G-forces. He pushed himself to his feet, squinting into the thinning air. The rush of atmosphere was slowing, pressure in his compartment dropping rapidly over the past few seconds. Now or never.
Taking a slow, careful step, Sabin clutched at a grab-rail as the ship shifted course slightly. He nearly lost his footing as his shoulder slammed into the turret's monitor, a bright lance of pain spiking into his core and tightening his gut.
"Damnit..." He grunted, shifting himself along the railing hand-over-hand. His shoulder throbbed as he struggled against the ship's thrust, any misstep threatening to send him crashing down the corridor after the discarded headset. The vessel pitched again, nearly tearing him away from the rail before settling on a new course.
"15 seconds until main battery release."
As he neared the breach, Sabin hooked one arm around the grab-bar, his free hand snapping a safety line through a ringbolt on the corridor wall. Bracing one foot against the wall, he maglocked his boots to steady himself while he grabbed at a sealant canister strapped behind the railing. Ripping the safety pin free, he aimed the nozzle at the buckled section of wall, a jagged section of hull several inches long still venting precious air from the Junta.
"10 seconds. Macro-cannons locked in."
Sabin squinted his eyes, his head swimming as the atmospheric pressure started to become unmanageable. It felt like his tears were starting to boil off with the lack of air pressure. His thoughts drifted, his vision greying and seeming so... Distant. He could just lie down and rest for a moment, couldn't he? He was just -so tired-...
Sabin bit down hard on his tongue, snapping himself back to clarity. Rest was for the dead, and he wasn't dead, yet. Squeezing the activator, he sent a stream of blue-green liquid spraying at the corridor wall, which began to foam and harden on contact. The rush of air slowed to a trickle, whistling sharply as the sealant cured against the hull and shrunk the breach.
"Five seconds. Main battery, prepare to engage."
"Shit, shit, shit." Sabin murmured, glancing back towards his turret controls. Twenty paces, against the ship's velocity. No chance, there. He dropped the sealant in panic, wrapping both arms around the railing. The canister crashed down the decking, slamming into the blast door at the far end of the corridor.
"Main battery, release. Fire at will. Junta, brace for shock."
"Hold on, Sabin. We're nosing into the shockwave." Crackled Carnifex over the internal PA. "Zero-G turn, then hard burn. We have to protect the drives. Lock in."
Weightlessness suddenly overtook Sabin, his stomach turning as his sense of direction muddled. The sealant canister thudded softly off the ceiling, tumbling gently in the zero-g.
"I'm not at the console! I'm not in the gravity couch! Don't burn!" He shouted at the overhead speaker, struggling to unlatch his safety line. His hands fumbled stupidly at the catch, clumsy with panic. "Hold on a second, damnit!"
"Hits confirmed! Sensors report fusion drives breached. She's going critical! Brace for-" Tyran's voice was suddenly cut off by howling static as the enemy ship ruptured, supercharged plasma scattering communications.
The Junta's engines roared as the blastwave hit, ripping Sabin's hands from the railing as he flew towards the rear of the corridor. His safety line snapped with a sudden jerk, giving him just enough time to tuck into a crash position before slamming him into the hatch.
The world went dark, and Sabin knew no more.
...Voices in the darkness...
-By the Divine, what a mess. Have you ever seen anything like it?-
-Protector be praised, he's stabilizing.-
-He's waking up. Put him back under.-
-20 CC's of somnolone. Pushing.-
-He's redlining, damnit! Get it locked in!-
The voices faded into the fog of unknowing once again, and Sabin found himself riding through the stars, carried on the back of some great interstellar behemoth. This seemed right somehow, a massive beast ferrying his soul across the void's stygian depths like the Valkyries of the Old Tales. He tried to look around, but everything seemed so distant... as though he were simply watching a holovid of the passage of time. Distant stars flashed as they were born, superheated gases igniting with the raw power of fusion, burned their way through the ages, and winked out in silence. Great clouds of gases roiled in their passage, comforting in their familiarity but horrifying in their alieness all the same.
Sabin closed his eyes again, shutting out the images. Too much, too much.
-We're losing him!-
-For God's sake, unplug him before he seizes again. He can't handle...-
He drifted away again, locked in the endless black behind his eyes. He just needed to rest, damnit. He just needed to sleep for a while...
-Lieutenant?-
His world shook with the word, the voice seeming to manifest from within his throbbing head.
-Sabin. Wake up.-
~No. I'm dead. I earned this. Go away.~ He thought bitterly. He died a good death, and that's the best any Valdarii could hope for, anymore. He would get a plaque in the Hall of Heroes, as he deserved, and that was enough. After all, the dead didn't care for such things like fame and honor. Like them, he was ready to stop caring.
-WAKE UP.-
~Go screw yourself. You aren't supposed to disturb the dead. It's against protocol.~
-If you're dead, then I'm the Divine, and I'm telling you to open your damned eyes.-
Rage boiled within him. Who was this THING to tell him, the holy and honored dead, how to act? No God would speak to it's children in such a manner.
He pried his eyes open, but the world was now awash in soft blue light. The terrifying vastness of space was replaced with a sudden feeling of confinement. He tried to move, but his body refused to respond. He felt weightless but otherwise numb, unable to turn his head or lift his hands.
-Stop moving. You aren't dead, but you were close. Thrashing about isn't going to help that. Now calm down and breathe.-
He didn't so much breathe as think of breathing, and it happened. He sucked in a ragged breath, pressurized air flooding his lungs and burning his chest. Something covered his mouth, preventing him from closing his jaw as he struggled to comprehend his situation. Was he in the medbay?
-There now. Just relax a moment, lieutenant. Speaking of, congratulations on the promotion.- The voice continued, deep and rich with charisma. Pure.
~You can't promote the dead. They aren't good officers.~
The voice laughed, but it was more of a sensation of mirth rather than a real sound.
-You're really stuck on this 'dead' thing, aren't you?-
~If I'm not dead, then what am I? A ghost? A spirit?~
-Don't be obtuse. Like you said, we don't promote the dead, and we don't give away rank to ghosts.-

2020.06.22 12:59 Ampersand_Dotsys The Ballad of the Junta (Part 1)

[NSFW due to some harsh language (Nonabusive)]
[This story contains some fantastical elements: Capital ship broadsides, limited warp-tech, etc]
His heart rate spiked as his vision cleared, the frigate's main thrusters cutting and allowing the ship to freely rotate under its own inertia. The crushing gravity squeezing his body vanished almost instantly as the drive dropped, allowing him a moment to breathe. More spears of light appeared on his viewscreen, raining destruction along their warship's projected path. Slamming his feet into the pedals again, his quad-cannon preached the Word in its terrible language of 120mm plasma-sheathed shells.
We're going up the ass of the devil, so keep your head in the game." The engines died as he spoke, a sense of profound weightlessness overtaking Sabin as the thrust zeroed.
Radiation claxons added their voice to the proximity alarms, the final torpedos' payloads delivering a hammer-blow of fusion to the rear of the enemy ship.
Bracing one foot against the wall, he locked his boots to steady himself while he grabbed at a sealant canister strapped behind the railing.
Lock in."

2020.06.21 23:16 jeduardooliveira Algumas curiosidades das eliminatórias das copas do mundo - Parte VII

Outras partes: Parte I Parte II Parte III Parte IV Parte V Parte VI
1966
- Dos 124 países filiados à FIFA, 74 se inscreveram até a data-limite (foram rejeitadas as inscrições de Guatemala, Congo e Filipinas por problemas nas inscrições);
- Haviam 14 vagas em disputa, pois o Brasil, como campeão, e a Inglaterra, como sede, já estavam garantidos. As vagas foram divididas assim: 9 para a UEFA (sendo disputadas por 32 seleções, incluindo Israel e Síria), 3 para a CONMEBOL (sendo disputadas por 9 seleções), 1 para a CONCACAF (disputada por 10 seleções) e 1 para a Ásia e a África (disputada por 21 seleções, incluindo a Austrália);
- Juntas, África e Ásia já possuíam o maior contingente de países filiados à FIFA – 57, quase a metade do total. Dos 29 novos países que haviam aderido à FIFA entre 1960 e 1963, 22 eram africanos ou asiáticos. 15 equipes africanas e a Síria desistiram em protesto pelo número de vagas para a África e Ásia. Mas, este não foi o único motivo: em abril de 1963, o Comitê Olímpico Internacional já havia excluído os sul-africanos dos Jogos Olímpicos e de todas as competições internacionais devido ao apartheid, isso não sensibilizou a FIFA, que rejeitou a expulsão da África do Sul, gerando muitos protestos. Somente após todas as seleções africanas desistirem (em outubro de 1964) é que, finalmente, a FIFA decidiu suspender a África do Sul (excluindo, assim, sua inscrição), a exclusão do quadro da FIFA só foi acontecer em 1976. João Havelange foi eleito presidente da FIFA em 1974, muito por conta da falta de tato político da FIFA, em se tratando de distribuição de vagas para os continentes e os imbróglios com questões políticas, era necessário um presidente não europeu;
- No fim, a Coréia do Sul também desistiu, pois não queria ir a Coréia do Norte. Isto justifica o fato de 74 seleções terem se inscrito, porém apenas 51 jogarem;
- No grupo 1 (UEFA), ficaram Bélgica, Bulgária e Israel. Em 1963, a Bélgica aplicou uma goleada, em casa, de 5x1 no Brasil (sem Pelé e com a equipe em renovação). Portanto, a Bélgica era franca favorita, porém acabou empatando em pontos com a Bulgária e isso levou a um jogo desempate. Esse empate em pontos só ocorreu porque a Bulgária venceu Israel, na última rodada, em Tel-a-Viv com um gol a 4 minutos do fim. Gol de Asparukhov. O jogo desempate ocorreria na Itália, em Florença, dia 29 de dezembro de 1965 e, com dois gols de Asparukhov, a Bulgária venceu por 2x1 e garantiu a última vaga da copa;
- Coincidências: a Bulgária garantiu a última vaga da copa, assim como em 1961, contra uma seleção favorita (em 61, foi a França) e em solo italiano (em 61, foi em Milão). Ambas foram em um dia frio de dezembro e os artilheiros da seleção de ambas as eliminatórias morreriam no mesmo acidente: Asparukhov e Nikola Kotkov, faleceriam num acidente de carro, em 30 de junho de 1971, quando eram companheiros de clube no Levski de Sófia. Mais de 550 mil pessoas compareceram no funeral de Asparukhov;
- O quarto jogo do grupo 2 seria decisivo. A Suécia jogava em casa contra a Alemanha e precisava vencer para empatar em pontos com os alemães, forçando o jogo desempate, já que o Chipre, o outro integrante do grupo seria o saco de pancadas. Foi nesse jogo que estreou Franz Beckenbauer, a Alemanha venceu por 2x1;
- No grupo 5 (UEFA), Holanda, Suíça e Irlanda do Norte fizeram jogos muito equilibrados. Na última rodada, aos 45 do segundo tempo, a Suíça fez o gol da vitória por 2x1 sobre a Holanda, chegando a 9 pontos. A Irlanda do Norte, de George Best, só precisa ganhar da Albânia, o jogo era em Tirana, mas a Albânia havia perdido TODOS os jogos do grupo até ali, e parecei que perderia esse também, até os 32 do segundo tempo, quando achou o gol de empate que acabou classificando os Suíços;
- 98 mil na Alemanha Oriental (Jogo aqui), 70 mil na Áustria e 73 mil na Hungria. Os jogos do grupo 6 da UEFA, foram quase todos com o estádio completamente lotado. Em Viena, no jogo Áustria x Hungria, um clássico já que ambos os países pertenceram a mesma nação, foram 70 mil no estádio e 20 mil fora querendo entrar, mesmo sem ingresso. A polícia austríaca teve problema para contornar;
- A Espanha ficaria no grupo da Irlanda e da Síria. A Síria desistiu e Espanha e Irlanda ganharam cada uma seu jogo em casa entre si. No jogo desempate, em Paris, aos 35 minutos do segundo tempo, José Armando Ufarte Ventoso fez o gol que levou a Espanha a copa. Ufarte nascera em 1941, em Pontevedra, na Espanha, mas sua família se mudara para o Rio de Janeiro quando ele tinha cinco anos. Com o apelido de “Espanhol” começou nas categorias de base do Flamengo em 1958, foi emprestado para o Corinthians, voltando em 1962 para o Flamengo, foi titular durante dois anos e campeão carioca de 1963. Em 1964, foi vendido ao Atlético de Madri, onde foi 3 vezes campeão espanhol. Pela seleção da Espanha, Ufarte atuou 16 vezes e marcou dois gols;
- Na América do Sul, foram 9 seleções divididas em 3 grupos de 3. O Uruguai e a Argentina se classificaram sem muitas dificuldades, enfrentando Peru e Paraguai, respectivamente, como maiores ameaças. Porém, no grupo de Chile, Equador e Colômbia a coisa foi mais complicada. Chile e Equador terminaram empatados em pontos e precisaram fazer um jogo desempate. O jogo foi em Lima e terminou 2x1 para os Chilenos. Assista aqui ;
- Pela CONCACAF, México e Costa Rica decidiram a vaga na cidade do México, quem vencesse estaria classificado, o empate geraria um jogo desempate. Aos 16 minutos do primeiro tempo, o México fez 1x0, e após provocações dos jogadores e torcedores que invadiram o campo, os costarriquenhos resolveram devolver na porrada. Pancadaria rolou por 17 minutos, quando o juiz expulsou um de cada lado, porém a torcida mexicana não concordou, achando que apenas o jogador da Costa Rica deveria ser expulso, começaram a arremessar tudo o que podiam no gramado. Só depois do juiz anular a expulsão do jogador mexicano Munguía é que o jogo pode continuar. Mas, no segundo tempo, ele acabou sendo expulso de qualquer jeito junto com mais dois jogadores da Costa Rica;
- Na Ásia, a Coréia do Norte venceu os dois jogos contra a Austrália. Vídeo Aqui;
Um pouco além das Eliminatórias:
- Um dos motivos encontrados para explicar o fracasso da seleção na copa de 66 foi “a absurda convocação de 45 jogadores”. Porém, em 1962, foram chamados 41 jogadores, ninguém reclamou. A grande diferença é que 1966, a desorganização permitia que dirigentes dos clubes pressionassem os cortes e a convocação. Além disso, em 1962, pelos menos 15 dos 22 jogadores todos sabiam que iriam para a copa de qualquer jeito;
- Se as nações africanas desistiram, e a copa não teve seleções africanas participantes entre 1934 e 1970, o continente não deixou de ser bem representado. Pela segunda vez um artilheiro de Copa do Mundo era nascido no continente africano. A primeira foi em 1958, com o marroquino Just Fontaine, que atuou pela Seleção da França. Eusébio, goleador do Mundial da Inglaterra, era natural de Moçambique;
- A derrota para a Hungria na segunda rodada da Copa do Mundo de 1966 quebrou uma série de 13 jogos invictos do Brasil (11 vitórias e 2 empates). Nunca uma seleção ficou tanto jogos sem perder na competição;
- Essa foi a primeira Copa que não teve jogos aos domingos. Por motivos religiosos, os esportes eram proibidos nesse dia nas Ilhas Britânicas. Os britânicos só teriam o domingo liberado para o futebol a partir de 1973. Até hoje permanece a maioria dos jogos da Premier League segue sendo no sábado;
